Dec. 1, 1932 ­- Feb. 16, 2015 SIERRA VISTA, AZ - C. Joyce Hughes, age 82, a 46-year resident of Sierra Vista, AZ, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2015. She was born on December 1, 1932, in Burlington, Vermont, to Peter and Madeline Bosley. To read the full obituary or leave an on-line condolence please visit hatfieldfh.com. She attended Elementary and High School in Burlington and the University of Vermont, where she met her future husband, Charles L. Hughes. On September 7th, 1953, they married in Mallets Bay, Vermont, and then drove to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where her husband was admitted to the Pennsylvania School of Dentistry. Joyce supported her husband while he attended classes for four years. During this period, she also delivered two of her future seven children. Following graduation, Charles was sworn into the Army Dental Corps. Joyce and Charles decided to make the Army a career, which resulted in tours of duty to Fort Dix, NJ, Panama, Washington, DC, Fort Lewis, Washington, Fort Mead, Maryland, Fort Benning, Georgia, Vietnam and Fort Huachuca, Arizona, where Charles retired in 1975 as a Colonel. Charles and Joyce together opened an Oral and Maxillary surgery practice in Sierra Vista, Arizona, for the next 14 years until 1989. Joyce enjoyed bowling for many years and traveling in their recreation vehicles with their children and pets during their final retirement. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Dr. Charles Lloyd Hughes (Col., U.S. Army Ret.) and is survived by her seven children; Linda Orraj (Curtis), Karen Vega (Jerry), Jeffrey Hughes (Dawn), Susan Hermes (Reiner), Kathleen Hughes, Carol Bowling (Anthony) and Kelly Janney (Michael). There are now 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. A time of visitation will be held at Hatfield Funeral Home on Sunday, February 22, 2015, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., a reciting of the Rosary will begin at 6:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m., Monday, February 23, 2015, at St. Andrew Apostle Catholic Church with Fr. Gregory Adolf as Celebrant. Interment will follow at the Southern Arizona Veterans' Memorial Cemetery.
