FOSTER, BRUCE R.Micanopy - Bruce R. Foster is a former resident of Watertown, NY and a veteran of 30 years military service. He has traveled to 44 countries and all 50 states. He began his military career in 1954 in the United States Marine Corps and was discharged in 1962. He then entered the civilian work place with Monarch Crown Corporation, a subsidiary of Bristol Myers Corporation, where he held the positions of Far Eastern Sales Manager, European Sales Manager, and finally returned to the United States as the Eastern United States Sales Manager. He then reentered the military in 1975, joining the Florida Army National Guard, and entered into the Active Guard Reserve (AGR) program. He rose to the highest enlisted rank in the Army of Sergeant Major. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, holds an AA Degree in Applied Science from El Paso Community College, an AA degree in Science from New York State University, is a recipient of the Legion of Merit, and retired from the U.S. Army in 1997. Bruce founded AMVETS Post 20 in Perry, Florida and was their Commander for three years, where he still remains a member. He is a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lions International, Knights of Columbus and past Grand Knight, a life member in The American Legion, The Forty and Eight, The Disabled American Veterans, Marine Corps League, Sad Sacks, and AMVETS where he holds the title of (PDC) Past Department Commander, AMVETS Department of Florida. Bruce believed in all Veterans and Fraternal Organizations and hopes the citizens of this great country will never forget what these organizations stand for. Bruce turned 75 this past May and believed the good Lord wants you out working for the good of the community and not staying home being an armchair delegate. Bruce resided in Micanopy, FL with his loving wife, Barbara Foster. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 17, 2012 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with interment to follow at Florida National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 SE Silver Springs Blvd, Ocala Florida.
