Bruce Collins, 98 years old, of Panama City, passed away Friday, April 8, 2011, in his home. He was born in 1913 in Ashford, Ala., to George and Beulah Collins. He served as Clerk of the Circuit Court for 24 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Panama City and the Men's Bible Class. He was a former member of the Kiwanis Club and Elks Club. Mr. Collins was raised on his family's farm in southern Alabama. He was an early resident of Panama City, joining his brother, Byron, in 1934 in business at Fifth Street and Harrison Avenue across from the Marie Hotel. His passion was his poetry. He committed literally hundreds of poems, songs and ditties to memory and was frequently in demand to recite and perform at schools, churches, weddings and funerals. Mr. Collins was a family man. His greatest asset was his wife, "Tincy," who gave him five children, whom he loved, along with his extended family including eight siblings. He will be missed.He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne "Tincy" Hobbs Collins, and all of his siblings. He is survived by his five children (spouses), Bayne Collins (Anne), Carl Collins (Jana), Mary Ann Collins Taylor, Beth Specht and Clay Collins; 11 grandchildren, Shannon Collins (Brant), Lauren Collins Applegate (Drew), Catherine Collins, George Collins, Ashley Collins Muck (Joe), Brennan Collins (Lila), Jayson Deese, Laura Taylor Myers (Fred), Allyson Specht Smith (Trey), Jennifer Specht Norwood (Jeremy) and Will Specht (Liza); and 10 great-grandchildren, Joseph Muck, Carter Myers, Elizabeth Myers, Hayden Smith, Jack Henry Smith, Emma Norwood, Noah Norwood, Fletcher Norwood, Samuel Specht and Cooper Specht. Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday in the Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 6-8 p.m. Pallbearers will be Brennan Collins, George Collins, Jayson Deese, Will Specht, Drew Applegate, Joe Muck and Fred Myers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Men's Bible Class at First United Methodist Church. Those desiring may make a donation to Emerald Coast Hospice in memory of Bruce Collins. The family would like to especially thank Amanda Sellars, his caregiver, and the staff of Emerald Coast Hospice.
