LEE, Brian Ying KuenMay 27, 1950 - Toi Shan, Guangdong, ChinaDecember 13, 2013 - Calgary, ABBrian Ying Kuen Lee of Calgary, beloved husband of Jackie Po Chu Chan, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 13, 2013 at the age of 63 years. Born in Toi Shan, Guangdong, China, Brian escaped to Hong Kong at the age of 11 hidden under the floorboards of a ferry boat and later immigrated to Canada at the age of 16. Refusing to be kept back by his English teacher in high school, Brian ultimately graduated from the University of British Columbia School of Engineering. He had a long and successful career as cofounder and Principal of LeeMaher Engineering Associates Ltd., and cofounder and Partner of Skyscape Management Inc. with his business partner of 26 years, Bill Maher. A devoted Christian, Brian was ex-chair of Calgary's Chinese Baptist Church Council and a respected and dedicated member of the Calgary Chinese Christian Wing Kei Nursing Home Association, which provides compassionate care for Calgary's Chinese Seniors, having been an ex-chair of the Board of Directors and its current Secretary. Strong in his Christian faith, Brian was a leader in his community and a mentor to many. He will be remembered for his deep love of family, his passion for travel, his integrity, loyalty, sense of humor and the joy he found in the company of good friends. While he was, until the end, tremendously proud of his children and grandchildren, with respect to his own numerous accomplishments he remained ever humble. Besides his devoted wife Jackie, Brian is survived by his three daughters Krystall (Janick), Krimsen (Dean) and Clarissa; four grandchildren Callie, Aviah, Isaac and Dominic; and four brothers Cheuk (Fai), Dick (Wanda), Jimmy and Johnny (Jeverly). Brian was genuinely loved and respected by so many and will be greatly missed. He leaves behind a remarkable legacy. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary, AB) today, December 18, 2013 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A Celebration of Brian's Life will be held at Centre Street Church "Central Campus" (3900 - 2 Street N.E.) on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery.
