She was born in Lowell on March 30, 1960, one of 10 children of John and Loretta (Shea) Wanamaker of Billerica. The Wanamaker family's long ties to Billerica were noted in a story reporting on Mrs. Cox's death in Thursday's editions of The Sun.She graduated from Lowell High School, and moved from Billerica to Andover six years ago.For the past 10 years, Mrs. Cox was a process engineer at Raytheon's RF Components Group in Andover. Mrs. Cox had previously been an engineer for 11 years at the former Alpha Industries in Woburn, where she met her husband. They would marry on New Year's Day on a snowy trail in Vermont's Green Mountains.Mrs. Cox was an experienced hiker and athlete who participated in biathlons, road races and adventure races. She enjoyed rock climbing, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.She was an avid traveler who had taken trips to Indonesia, China and France. Mrs. Cox also enjoyed taking courses in yoga, photography, drawing at Cambridge Adult Education Center and other classes at Merrimack College in North Andover.Besides her husband and parents, she is survived by two sons, Neil Thompson of Andover and Michael Thompson, who resides in Minnesota; three brothers, Stephen, Sean and Michael Wanamaker, all of Billerica; six sisters, Donna DoVale, Cheryl Leopold, Kathleen Marks and Ellen Bartel, all of Billerica, Debra Wanamaker, residing in Minnesota, and Gretchen Lamy of Westford. She also leaves 19 nieces and nephews.
