AUGUSTA, Ga. - Ms. Bobbie Atkins Carter, a lifelong resident of the Augusta area, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, December 12, 2007. The family will receive friends on Friday (Today), December 14, 2007 from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at The Poteet Funeral Homes, West Chapel, 3686 Wheeler Road, Augusta, 706-860-0009. The funeral service will be conducted following the visitation at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, December 14, 2007 in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Perry Shelfer will officiate. Committal services will follow in the family plot at Westover Memorial Park. Ms. Carter was a member of the Martinez United Methodist Church. The Master's Sunday School Class, of which she was a member, will serve as honorary pallbearers at her funeral service. They are asked to meet at the funeral home at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Prior to Ms. Carter's retirement as the foodservice manager at Our Lady of Peace School, she was a buyer for Cullums Department Store and Turner's of National Hills. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jones Hanford Atkins and Iva Weathersbee Atkins. Ms. Carter is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Tonya Carter Blanchard and Preston K. Blanchard; her grandchildren, Jonathan Carter Blanchard and Allison Pollard Blanchard; Tonya's father, Warren A. Carter; her sisters, Sybil Rogers; Geneva Stephens, and Brenda Fuller and her husband, Wayne; her brothers, Langdon Atkins and his wife, Carolyn and Tony Atkins; her aunt, Mrs. Eleanor Brown; and several close friends including Rudean Bivens. She is also survived by her cherished dog, Sophie. Memorials may be made to Martinez United Methodist Church, 3416 Washington Rd.
