->WATERVILLE -- On a beautiful autumn day, Oct. 17, 2008, Blanche Elizabeth Megahan Hyatt died peacefully with her daughters by her side.Bette was born to Urie Walter and Anna Walker Megahan in Philadelphia, Pa., on Jan. 31, 1919. She and her brother, Urie Jr., grew up in Palmyra, N.J. The family vacationed in Avalon, N.J., where she met her future husband, Robert W. Hyatt. They wed in 1942 and lived in Palmyra and Riverton until 1998, when they moved to Winslow to be near their daughters.Bette was devoted to her family and was a gracious friend to all who knew her. She had a smile for everyone. She loved animals, nature and knitting.Bette was predeceased by her husband, Robert, in 2002 and brother Urie in World War II.She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Hayward and her husband, Sumner, and Linda Lee and her husband, William. She is also survived by three granddaughters, Jessica Brown and her husband, Paul, Corinne Lee and Andrea Lee; and great-grandson James P. Brown.At Bette's request, there will be no visiting hours or funeral. If desired, contributions in Bette's memory may be made to the Evening Sandwich Program, 69 Silver St., Waterville, ME 04901; or the Waterville Humane Society, 100 Webb Road, Waterville, ME 04901.Arrangements were made through Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville.
