BROWN, Bharbara October 8, 1930 - January 11, 2013It is with great sadness that the family of Bharbara Brown announce her passing on Friday, January 11, 2013 at Sarcee Care West Hospice after a courageous battle with cancer. Bharbara Brown (nee Johnston) was born in Lumsden, SK on October 8, 1930, the daughter of William Nabis and Alice Johnston. Mom attended school in Broadview, SK. She received her RN from the Regina General Hospital and in 1952 she joined the staff of the Cancer Commission in Regina. In 1953, she was transferred to Saskatoon where she worked as a Radium-Radiological Therapist, and had the honor of being one of the first people in the world to operate the Cobalt Bomb for cancer treatment. Mom married Louis Schwalm in 1954. In 1967, Mom started working with Holiday Magic Cosmetics and in 1968 she started her own company, Renown Enterprises, distributors of the Cosmetics. Mom was a member of Lionesses, Saskatchewan Registered Nurses Association, the Regina Chamber of Commerce and of Beta Sigma Phi. Mom moved to Calgary in the early 1970's and went to work for the Canadian Simmental Association. From there she went to work for the Calgary Action Association which housed the Calgary Food Bank. After years of dedication, she became the Assistant Executive Director for the Calgary Inter-Faith Food Bank. After retiring Mom enjoyed travelling to see her grandchildren, great- grandson and family, golfing, crafting, cooking and hosting many dinner parties. She was known as "Nana BBQ" by her "adopted grandchildren" Amber, Krista and Jon and Mom's good friend Kathy. Mom was greatly pleased to reconnect with nurses from her class of 1952 for her 60th reunion in Regina last September. It brought her great joy and happiness. Mom was a compassionate, caring, vibrant, elegant and spirited woman. She loved her family and friends and will be dearly missed by many. Mom is survived by her daughters, Terry Schwalm (Otto Tresher), Debbie LaRocque (Kelly), and Sheri Boelgi (Larry). She is also survived by daughters-in-law Carolyn LaRocque and Tori Hatfield; grandchildren Brent (Kate), Brandan and Colin; and great-grandson Linclon; brother Keith Johnston (Irene), grandniece Bev Rousson (Dean) and their daughters Ashley, Kayla and Andrea: Mom's cousin Ann Johnson, her children Patty (Joe, sons Sean and Nathan) and Peggy (Rob, son William). She will also be missed dearly by her extended family, Larry Minchin, Patty Harding, Bruce Leach, David Crawford, Shirley Hardy and Al, James Mauch, Thelma Henry, Sherry Kindopp (Kelly); Evelyn Humphrey and family; Kathy Seagrave, Amber (Jeff), Krista and Jon; and all the friends and family she met and loved from the Calgary Food Bank. Mom was predeceased by her mother Alice and Louis. There will be a "Celebration of Bharbara's Life" on Saturday, January 19 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Ogden House Senior Citizens' Club (2102 - 69 Avenue S.E.)
