LEE, Beverly Jane, 79, of Brooksville, Fla., passed peacefully October 14, 2009, after a sudden illness. The devoted mother of five and wife of Robert O. Lee, 83, she raised five children in upstate New York as she pursued a successful career as a legal secretary. A Brooksville resident for the last 20 years, she was the secretary at the First United Methodist Church, where she was also active in the Methodist Women' s group. She was a former volunteer at Brooksville Regional Hospital. The daughter of Lena Stray and her adoptive father, Carsten Stray, she graduated from Central High School in Syracuse, N.Y. She and her husband raised their family of five in the country, in Constantia, N.Y., where the children prospered and came to love their home. She and her husband were ardent motorcyclists and square dancers and traveled the country in their motor home, visiting children on both coasts. While her interests included road trips and organ-playing, her devotion was always to her family. She was preceded in death by her youngest child, Patricia Rose of Syracuse. She is survived by her husband, Robert O. Lee; and four children, Terrence, of Newport News, Va., James, of Salem, Ore.; Kevin, of Davis, Calif.; and Margaret Osborne, of Lynchburg, Va.; and two brothers, Ed of Fayetteville, N.C., and Donald of Syracuse, N.Y. She had 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday at Merritt Funeral Home, Brooksville, Fla. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 17, at Brooksville First United Methodist Church, Broad St., with a reception at 1 p.m., following interment at Brooksville Cemetery.
