Funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Morgan Funeral Chapel for Betty Smith, 83, Ashville, who died Friday, Nov. 22, 2013. Lee Gilliland will officiate. Burial will be in Ashville Cemetery. Morgan Funeral Chapel and Crematory is directing. Mrs. Smith was a member of Ashville Baptist Church. She was born on June 4, 1930, in Ashville and was a graduate of Jacksonville State University. She taught school for 36 years in Dekalb and St. Clair counties. Mrs. Smith tried to inspire her students to reach their full potential. She had a servant's heart.Survivors are her husband, Coy Smith, Ashville; daughters, Sandy (Keith) Burton and Becky (Gerald) Dobuzinsky; sons, Mike (Donna) Smith and Ted Smith; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Frances Ford and Blanche (Jim) Deal; brother, Harry (Faye) Frazier.Pallbearers will be Mike Smith, Patrick DeRusso, Wes Burton, Jacob Coffee, David Kirkland, Jeff Frazier, Terry Minton and James Frazier.Visitation will be one hour prior to service.
