Funeral Service for Betty Ruth Davis, 60, Ormond Beach, who died July 20, 2008, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 26 at Allan Chapel A.M.E. Church, Rev. Nathan M. Mugala host pastor. Rev. Carl F. Brinkley will officiate. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Calling hours are today (Friday) from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Historic New Bethel AME, Ormond Beach, Rev. Brenda Edge, Pastor, delivering the eulogy. Betty Ruth Davis was born on June 22, 1948 in Quitman, Georgia to Rebecca Clayton Jones and Joseph Strickland. She was preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Jones and brother-in-law, Edward James Davis. Betty was raised in Ormond Beach, Florida and attended Rigby Elementary and Campbell High School. She furthered her education in the dietary field earning several certifications in Dietary Management. She was employed with Ormond Beach Health Care Center for over twenty-five years as a Certified Dietary Manager. Betty was a longtime member of Historic New Bethel A.M.E. Church. She was very active and devoted in her community and church. Serving as a Trustee, Missionary, Director of the Y.P.D (Young People Department) and The Kitchen Ministry. Betty was also a faithful member of the UnitedHands Working Through Faith, an organization working to aid, assist, and help the community. On July 20, 2008 the Lord called Betty home for much needed rest. Her presence will be missed tremendously by her family and friends. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 39 years, Johnny (Erika) Strickland; a loving granddaughter, Nadine Strickland; her mother, Rebecca Jones; four sisters, Barbara Jones, Wanda (Kevin) Hinds, Jennifer Jones, and Georgia Jones; two brothers, Herbert (Audrey) Jones Jr, and Winifred Jones; three uncles, Robert Clayton, Milton (Barbara) Clayton Jr. and Thomas (Anne) Clayton; two brothers-in-law, Leonard (Bertha) Davis and Ronnie (Evangelyn) Davis; six sisters-in-law, Alfred (Fred) Lewis Kathy (George) Butts, Bonnie (Ricky) Dauris, Audrey Hines, Connie Davis, and Francis Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends, Stella Baker, Alfreda Lewis, John Watson, Sir.
