Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.Mrs. Behel, who died Tuesday, November 22, 2011, at Decatur General Hospital, was born September 4, 1942, in Auburn, N.Y., to Paul Kenneth Smith and Pauline Strapach Smith. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Our Lady of the Shoals Catholic Church in Tuscumbia. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Terry Janes; and brother, Joe Smith.Survivors include her husband, Carlos Gene Behel Sr.; one son, Carlos Gene Behel Jr. of Huntsville; two daughters, Penny Battles of Cape Canaveral, Fla., and Rena Behel of Muscle Shoals; two brothers, Bill Smith and Mike Smith, both of New York; four grandchildren, Brandi Sheets and husband, Brian, of Birmingham, Michael Barwinczak of Madison, Tyler Behel and Nicholas Behel, both of Huntsville; one great-granddaughter, Sophia Sheets of Birmingham; three nephews, Paul Janes, Billy Smith and Joe Smith, all of New York; five nieces, Sherry Smith and Jessica Smith, both of New York, Michelle Smith of Pennsylvania, Lindsey Smith and Amanda Smith, both of New York; cousins, special friend, Upen Singh, and loving friends of the family.
