Mrs. Betty Jean Gilbert Smith, 83, of Florence, formerly of Geraldine, Ala., passed away Feb. 24, 2010, at Crossville Health and Rehabilitation Center.Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today, Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Chris Underwood officiating. Burial will follow at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.Mrs. Smith was a graduate of Geraldine High School and Nashville Business College. In 1950, she and her late husband, Hugh B. Smith, married and they moved to Florence, where they owned and operated Southland Merchandising Co. Mrs. Smith was a member of Highland Baptist Church, where she was a member of Sandra Sockwell's Sunday school class. Hugh had been a season ticketholder to Auburn football since 1950, which Betty continued after Hugh's death.Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Hugh B. Smith; infant children, Samuel, Travis, Katherine and Anita Fay; and parents, Claude and Ora Marbut Gilbert.She is survived by her sister, Nell Coots; nephew and his wife, Jerry and Susie Coots; great-nephew, Ty Coots; great-niece and her husband, Shala and Rich Harger; her Southland family, Billy and Beth Prestage, Dale and Kathy Barnett and Jack and Betty Bobo; niece, Sandy Rosellini; great-nephew, Michael Rosellini; sister-in-law, Audry Gilbert; and many nieces and nephews.Pallbearers will be Ty Coots, Rich Harger, Blake Prestage, Larry Overton, Dale Barnett and Jack Bobo.
