In Loving Memory of Betty J. Smith, 81, of Dunnellon, Florida.Betty died peacefully in her home on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014. Betty was born in Washington, D.C., on Nov. 5, 1932, to the late Bufford and Lantie Dodson. Betty worked 29 years then retired from 1st American Bank of Laurel, Maryland as the Administrative Branch Manager. After retirement she lovingly helped care for her grandchildren. Her kindness, love and care was extended to the congregation of Gulf to Lake Church once she and her belated husband Jack Smith relocated to Florida in 1995. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 52 years; her son, Barry; a nephew, Billy; and a great-nephew, "Little Eddie."Betty is survived by her daughter, Kathy Ann Smith of Dunnellon; four grandchildren, Jessica and husband Jacques Carroll of Laurel, Maryland, Shane Ballenger and his fiancée Karen Stokes of Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Timothy Ballenger and wife Melissa of Forest, Va.; and Alisha Ballenger of Jessup, Md.; her nine great-grandchildren, Zane, Erick and Jacque Jr. Carroll, Heavan, Harley and Timothy Ballenger Jr., Raymond, Christopher and Jeannie Stokes; and one great-grandchild, Zoe Carroll. She is also survived by two brothers, Samuel and Joseph Dodson of Alexandria, Virginia; and one sister, Martha Halle and husband Warren of Potomac, Maryland; as well as nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.Betty's family held a small service led by Pastor Lloyd Bertine on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014, in the Chapel of Roberts Funeral Home of Dunnellon. Per Betty's wishes she will be cremated and join her husband in a double urn. Everyone she met loved her. She will be greatly missed!
