BETTY J. REGAN of Keyport, N.J.Betty J. Regan (Myers), age 68 years and 20 days, died Saturday at the Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, N.J., after a long, courageous battle with lung cancer. Mrs. Regan was born in Johnson City and was a 1951 graduate of Binghamton High School. After school, Mrs. Regan was active in city politics and was a leading member of the Binghamton Jaycees as well as stage theatre. She moved to California in the 1960's to pursue a dream of acting and starred in several large theatre productions. In 1966 she returned to the East coast, moving to Keyport, N.J. During her life in town she was involved in many facets of public life. She was a member and past director of the Keyport Historical Society, a five year member of the Keyport Board of Education, and former Vice-President of the Keyport Zoning Board. Mrs. Regan was an organizer of the local historical house tour. In 1991 she ran as the Democratic candidate for Keyport mayor in a three-way race. She was an avid oil painter and a beloved antiques and Keyport memorabilia collector. She was a former Nursery School teacher at St. John's Methodist Church in Hazlet, N.J., retiring in 1997. Mrs. Regan was predeceased by her father, Harry Myers; an infant son, Christian Jon; and her stepfather, Stafford Dibble. She is survived by her mother Mae Dibble, Clifford Beach; a sister, Patricia Jackowski, Deltona, Fla.; her beloved husband, Eugene Regan, Keyport; a daughter and son-in-law, Michele and Thomas Wasser, Binghamton; son Richard Chuma, Vero Beach, Fla.; son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Patricia Regan, Keyport; and son Daniel Regan, Keyport; three grandchildren and seven nieces and nephews.
