Betty Hoflund Mitchell passed away in Kirkwood, Mo., on September 2, 2008. She was born on August 11, 1916, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and lived there until she was four years old. She then moved to a small suburb of Milwaukee, Wisc., where she received her education. Her next move was Sioux City, Iowa, where she med and married Norman Hoflund. She and Norman moved to Huron, S.D., and lived there for five years. Their daughter Patricia was born there. They moved to Kansas City, Mo., where their second daughter, Barbara was born. The girls were three and six years old when they moved to Springfield, Mo., where Betty had an interior decorating business for 35 years. After her marriage to Norman ended, she met and married Ray Mitchell. They later retired and moved to Bella Vista, Ark. Betty is survived by her daughters, Patty Hoflund Holt Thompson, Barbara Hoflund Hinkley Wirth and Jeanie Mitchell Kendrick; and her grandchildren, Suzanne Holt Gardenhire, Bradford Freeman Hinkley, Anne Hinkley Manson, Dereck Laney and Jennifer Laney. She was preceded in death by Norman Hoflund and Ray Mitchell; and her grandson, Stephen Edgar Holt. There are no services planned. Her body has been given for research to Logan Chiropractic College in St. Louis, Mo. Memorials may be sent to Bella Vista Animal Shelter, 32 Bella Vista Way, Bella Vista, AR 72714.
