Funeral service for Betty G. Miller, 76, Northlake Drive, Orange City, who died Sun., April 22, 2007, at Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, Port Orange, will be 11 a.m. Wed., April 25, at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 319 W. Wisconsin Ave., DeLand, with the Rev. Don Lyon officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery. Calling hours are today (Tuesday) from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Allen-Summerhill Funeral Home, 126 E. New York Ave., DeLand. Mrs. Miller was born in Washington, D.C., and came here in 1964 from Silver Spring, Md. She attended University of Maryland School of Nursing and American University (three years). She was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in DeLand where she was on the Altar Guild for 13 years, a Sunday school teacher, a leader of the E.Y.C. (Episcopal Young Christians) and Acolytes, and served on the Faith in Work Committee and the Share-A-Home Committee. Her hobbies were folk art, painting and gardening. She also enjoyed various social activities at John Knox Village. She volunteered and served on the Board of Directors for the DeLand Museum (1968-1970), taught ceramics at both the DeLand Museum and the first Head Start program in DeLand, and volunteered with the Girl and Boy Scouts of America. She did Braille transcription at the Library of Congress and was Volunteer of the Year for Community Outreach Services in 1980 and 1990. She was a member of the Junior Welfare League, Garden Clubs of DeLand (past president in 1978), Pansy Garden Circle, Kappa Delta Sorority and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Survivors include her son, John (Diane) Miller, DeLand; daughter, Leslie (Rick) Hall, DeLand; grandchildren, Marcy Hall, Jacksonville, Katie Hall, Orlando, Tasha and Chad Howard, New Smyrna Beach, and Megan and Ryan Rodwell, DeLand; and great-grandchild, Landon James Howard, New Smyrna Beach. Memorial donations suggested to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Allen-Summerhill Funeral Home, 126 E. New York Ave., DeLand, is in charge of arrangements.
