BETTY MARIE DAVIS VALPARAISO, IN Betty Marie Davis, 86 of Valparaiso passed away, Thursday, February 28, 2008 at the VNA Horton Hospice Center of Valparaiso. She is survived by her daughter, Jo Anne (Jim) Whalls of Valparaiso; two step daughters: Janice (Richard) Black of Valparaiso and Mary (Don) Carr of Marysville, CA; 20 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell Davis; two step daughters: Irma Kibbe and Carol Street; step son, Dave Davis; brother, Robert Oplinger; one stepbrother; two stepsisters; her parents: Charles and Georgia Oplinger; and two great grandchildren. Betty was born on January 25, 1922 in the small town of Burkett, IN and eventually moved to Valparaiso; where she attended school, worked at Indiana General and then Continental Diamond, and graduated from Ft. Wayne Beautician School. She loved to crochet, knit, and sew. Betty always made beautiful afghans, baby sweaters and bonnets, and blankets; ready for new additions to family and friends. Betty also was very interested in genealogy and organized many books of the family lineage. She enjoyed camping with the family and traveling; including a cruise to Bermuda and Alaska and several trips by motor home out west. Betty will be missed by family and friends for her loving spirit and gentle ways. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 3, 2008 at 10:30 AM at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Road, Valparaiso with Pastor Mike Sutton officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 – 5:00 PM at the funeral home.
