Life Celebration for Betty Anne Carter, New Smyrna Beach, FL who died Tuesday, May 29, 2012 will be 2:00 PM Saturday, June 2 at Baldwin Brothers Heritage Place, 1 North Causeway, New Smyrna Beach. Betty was born in Detroit, Michigan August 29, 1918 and passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones on May 29, 2012. She attended schools in Cleveland, OH, Baltimore, MD and was graduated from Goucher College in 1940 with a Bachelor's Degree in Economics. She moved to Jacksonville, FL in 1953 and became an elementary school teacher. She then received a Master's of Education from University of Florida in 1965 and went on to retire from Florida Junior College as the reading department head in 1983. She traveled throughout the Orient, Russia, Finland and Alaska. Betty moved to New Smyrna Beach in 1998 where she continued to enjoy her retirement in close proximity to her son and daughter-in-law. In her later years she loved watching baseball, football and horse racing. She delighted in caring for various pets, but her greatest passion was reading and keeping her journals. She will be sorely missed by her children, Bruce and Lucy Morrison of New Smyrna Beach, Lauren and Steve Umstead of Rougemont, NC, Wayne and Laney Morrison of Gainesville, GA, Helen Pike and Delcher Carter, both of Jacksonville, FL, Jackie and Laurin Boyer of Ketchikan, Alaska; and her 12 grandchildren and 14 great- grandchildren. Baldwin Brothers Cremation Society, 1 North Causeway, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32169 is in charge of arrangements.
