SHANKS - Betty A. (nee Anderson) of Babylon, NY passed away peacefully on August 9, 2010. Born in Brooklyn, NY but raised in Sayville, NY. She enjoyed a lifetime of sailing and boating on the Great South Bay. Sunday dinner at Kismet Inn was a family ritual. Betty was a 50-year volunteer with the Bay Shore Penataquit Auxiliary, working and raising money for Southside Hospital. For many years she ran Pandora's Box, the Hospital Thrift Shop. Loving mother of Leslie (Tom) Mullens and Sanders (Arlene) Shanks. Proud Grammie of Lauren, Caitlin, Kimberly, Sanders, Elisabeth, and great-granddaughter Isabella. Survived by brother Bruce (Eloise) Anderson of Lynchburg, VA. Visiting at 0verton Funeral Home, 172 Main Street, Islip, NY on, Thursday 2-4:30 & 7-9pm. Funeral service Friday at 10:30am St. Ann's Episcopal Church 257 Middle Road, Sayville, NY. Cremation private.
