WHITELAW - Betty A. Williams, of 8921 N. Main Street, Canastota (Whitelaw), entered into eternal rest on Thursday, March 1, 2012, at Oneida Healthcare following a brief illness.She was born on May 5, 1927, in Rosiere, N.Y., the daughter of Gilbert and Margaret Tacey Arnold.Betty has lived in Canastota area most her life, attending the Canastota schools. She has lived in Whitelaw since 1953.She worked at Oneida Limited in Sherrill for 20 years, retiring in 1989.Betty led an active life. She was a former Canastota Little League mom and a Canastota Sports and Music Department booster. She volunteered at the Canastota Canal Town Museum; Tri-Valley VIPS (Visually Impaired Persons), where she was the treasurer and had been a volunteer for more than 20 years; and the Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen in Canastota. She had, also, been a 4-H Club leader for many years.Betty was a very active member of the Whitelaw Presbyterian Church, participating in the Women's Bell Ringers Choir, Women's Home Circle, Friendship Club, and for many, many years, helped organize numerous bake sales, fundraisers, and Old Home Days. She had, also, been a church elder and an assistant treasurer.She loved to travel and took many bus trips with friends as well as trips to Alaska, New Mexico, Maine, and England. She especially enjoyed going out for dinner with her group of friends to Sylvan Beach.Betty married Allen L. Williams on Nov. 18, 1950, in Clifton Springs, N.Y. Allen died on Dec. 23, 1982.Surviving are:one son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Lynne Williams of Cohoes; one daughter, Beth A. Williams of Rochester; one granddaughter and her husband, Jamie and Patrick Mangone of Manlius; four great-grandchildren, Allen M. Williams, Vincent A. Parasi, Lucas V. Mangone, and Katelynne Mangone; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Robert Arnold and Gilbert Arnold, both of Canastota, David and Barbara Arnold of Oneida, and Roger's widow, Irene Arnold of Rochester; as well as several nieces and nephews. Betty was predeceased by three brothers, Clate Arnold, Paul Arnold, and Roger Arnold; and a sister, Gladys Kinnetz.Memorial services for Betty A. Williams, of Whitelaw (Canastota), will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2012, at the Whitelaw Presbyterian Church, 8665 N. Main Street Road, Canastota. Pastor Donna Chapman will officiate. Burial will be in Lenox Rural Cemetery, Canastota. The family will greet friends at the church, prior to the service, from 9 to 11 a.m. Arrangements are under the supervision of the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James Street, Canastota. In her memory, contributions may be made to the Whitelaw Presbyterian Church, 8665 N. Main Street Road, Canastota, NY 13032, or to Tri-Valley VIPS, c/o Thomas Baker, 106 Spencer Street, Canastota, NY 13032, with envelopes available at the church.
