Bessie Burdine Walker, 89, widow of Lester L. Walker, Sr., entered into Heavenly peace with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 15, 2008. Born in Greenville County, she was the daughter of the late James Talley and Daisy Willimon Burdine. Mrs. Walker was a homemaker. She was an active member of East Park Baptist Church for 54 years and taught 4-5 year old Sunday school for 44 years. She was an avid gardener and reader of books. She read 925 Christian books supplied to her through Librarian Juanita Frazier of Brushy Creek Baptist Church since 2001. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Judy W. and Marcel Vaillancourt of Mauldin; a son, Lester Lee Walker, Jr. of Long Valley, N.J.; her special loves, a grandson, David Massey of Greer; a granddaughter, Jill Taylor and her husband, Greg, of Greer; very special to her heart are, three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Taylor and her fiance, Hunter Edminsten, Rebecca and Caroline Taylor, who brought her much joy in her later years; a sister-in-law, Bertha W. Knox of Easley; a brother-in-law, Dr. Arthur Walker and his wife, Barbara, of Ripley, Tenn..; a sister-in-law, Millicent Burdine of Simpsonville; and many special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters. She was affectionately known to her grandchildren and other family members as "Ma B". Flowers are welcome; however, memorials may be made to East Park Baptist Church, 12 Ebaugh Avenue, Greenville, SC 29607. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 16, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The funeral service will be held Thursday, January 17, 2008, at 3 p.m. in the downtown chapel. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
