Mrs. Bertha Lee Hardie Carter, 96, a resident of the Avenue Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, entered into the arms of the Lord on Saturday, January 10, 2009, at the center. Bertha was born in Reno, Georgia on January 15, 1912. She was the daughter of the late Charley and Anne King Hardie. Bertha was a member of the Refreshing Springs Church of God in Christ. She was a member of the Mothers Board and was known as Mother Carter. She also was a cook at the church day care center, and she also was an O.D. Heck foster grandmother and volunteer. In addition to her parents, Bertha was predeceased by her husband, Ira Carter; and two children, Ann Mason and Willie Carter; also predeceased by one brother and one sister. Survivors include her children, Theodore Williams and Ira Mae Blaydes and a nephew, Riley Sally, all of Schenectady; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren. Bertha is also survived by a host of extended family and friends. A homegoing celebration to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will be held 12 p.m. Thursday, January 15, 2009 at the Refreshing Springs Church of God in Christ, 327 Georgetta Dix Plaza, Schenectady. Calling hours will be held from 10 a.m. until the service. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery, Colonie. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Refreshing Springs Church of God in Christ, 327 Georgetta Dix Plaza, Schenectady, New York 12307. Arrangements have been entrusted by the family to the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Route 9, Clifton Park, NY 12065.
