Bertha Hettie Baker, 97, long-time St. Augustine Beach resident, died at home on Feb. 13, 2013.She was preceded in death by her husband, Emra; parents, James and Emma Best; brothers, Edwin, Fred, Albert, Alvin, Howard, and Norman Best; sisters, Ethel Taylor and Alice Hughes."Bert" was born in Duquesne, Pa., on Dec. 27, 1915. She and her husband, Emra, spent a wonderful life together, following each other around world courtesy of the U.S. Navy, eventually retiring in St. Augustine Beach over half a century ago. While living here, she enjoyed fishing both from the pier and their boat "Wanderer." Bertha was a founding member of the Woman"s Club and Garden Club, was active in the Navy League, the St. Augustine Officers" Club, and was the "greeter" for the Military Officers" Association for many years. She was a member of Christ the King Anglican Church.She is survived by her son, David Baker (Johanna) of St. Augustine; brother, John Best (Nancy) of Palm Coast; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by all.Memorial service will be held Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, 11 a.m. at Christ the King Anglican Church, 6900 U.S. 1 South, St. Augustine, FL 32086; Rev. David Allert, officiating. Burial will be followed by reception at church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Christ the King Building Debt Retirement Fund.Craig Funeral Home, Crematory, and Memorial Park is in charge of arrangements.
