The Oldest Living Graduate of Immaculate Conception Academy, Augusta, Ga. dies at the age of 96. NEWARK, N.J. - Mrs. Bernice Williams Smith entered into rest on Thursday, December 3, 2009. Graveside services will be held at Cedar Grove Cemetery at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 10, 2009 with the Rev. Thomas Healy of St. Joseph Catholic Church officiating. Mrs. Smith was native of Augusta, GA and a long time resident of Newark, N.J. She was a devoted Catholic and a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Newark, N.J. She retired from Blessed Sacrament Catholic School as a teaching assistant. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otha C. Smith, three first cousins, Harold Williams, Willette Williams, and Hermine Hughes. She is survived by a devoted daughter-in-law, Evelyn Kettles Smith; two devoted grandsons, Otha Smith III and Kevin Smith; a great grandson, Shawn Smith, all of Newark, N.J.; two first cousins, Edwina Charles, (mother of C. A. Reid, Jr.), Clarissa Williams, (James 'Shoestring' Williams), their family, (five children, 22 grandchildren, one great, and great grandchild); four second cousins, William, Kathleen, Norman, and Bernice, children of Hermine Hughes, all of Augusta, Ga. and a host of other relatives and friends.
