Benjamin-Stephen Lee, né en 1911, fils de Hilliard-Newhouse et Bonnie-French, père de Stephen, Sally, David, Dora, Colorado et Mark, est décédé le 10 décembre 2006 à l'âge de 95 ans.
Benjamin Stephen Lee, 95, of Springfield, died December 10, 2006, from complications of Alzheimer's Disease. He was a resident of The Manor at Elfindale for the past two years. Ben was born to Hilliard Newhouse Lee and Bonnie French Lee on October 15, 1911, on their farm at Flemington, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents; his older sister Daisey Galeener; and his brothers, Harold, Dwight, Charles and Richard Lee. For the past 70 years, Ben has been married to Helen Nicholson Lee, who survives him. His sons, Stephen and wife, Sally, of Frisco, Texas, David and wife, Dora, of Carbondale, Colorado, and Mark, of Springfield, also survive him. Also surviving are grandson Mike Lee and wife, Susan, of Austin, Texas and granddaughter Tracy Schwegman and husband, Bryant, of The Colony, Texas; triplet great-granddaughters, Taylor, Hannah and Cara Schwegman, of The Colony, Texas; and Ben's youngest sister Harriet Webb, of Miller, Missouri. Ben graduated from Flemington High School and attended Southwest Missouri Teachers College, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. He attended graduate school at the University of Southern California and obtained a Master of Science from the University of Missouri. Ben retired from Springfield Public Schools after serving as principal of York and Walt Disney Elementary Schools. Prior to coming to Springfield, he served as Superintendent of Schools at Nixa, Missouri. During World War II, Ben served in the United States Navy. He retired from U.S. Naval Reserve with rank of Lieutenant Commander. Ben was a charter member of Southminster Presbyterian Church. He served many terms as a Deacon and was very active in church activities. Ben had a love of the outdoors. He enjoyed golf, gardening and yard work. He loved reading, traveling and sports. Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 13, 2006, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, December 14, 2006, in Southminster Presbyterian Church, 2245 South Holland with the Reverend Bill Havens officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Rock Prairie Cemetery, Halltown, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Southminster Presbyterian Church.
