ALBANY Barbara Williams, RSCJ, in her 95th year, died at Kenwood, Convent of the Sacred Heart on Wednesday, June 1, 2005. Born in Brookline, Mass., the only daughter of Frank J. Williams and Isabel G. O'Connell on August 18, 1911, she entered the Society of the Sacred Heart at Kenwood in March, 1942, making her final vows in Rome in February, 1950. Before entering the convent, Sr. Williams received her LLB from Portia Law School, now New England School of Law. She also held a B.A. in psychology and a M.S. in education from City College of N.Y. During her years of ministry, which began in 1944, Sister Williams taught elementary classes and worked in the business offices of schools of the Sacred Heart in Washington, D.C., Providence, R.I., Albany, N.Y., Detroit, Mich., Rochester, N.Y. and New York, N.Y. Sister lived and served in New York for 32 years. Because of declining health, she moved to the retirement community at Kenwood in 2000. Sr. Williams was a dedicated, loving and kind woman with a delightful sense of humor. Her deep faith and ardent love of God and her religious vocation were sources of strength to her and evidenced in her life and ministry. Preceded in death by her brother, John G. Williams, Sr. Williams is survived by her three nieces, Susan Williams Marshall of Le Moyne, Pa., Ann Williams of Durham, N.C. and Mary Williams Sundman of Basal, Switzerland; as well as several loving and devoted great-nieces and nephews of two generations. A vigil will be held on Sunday, June 5 at 4:30 in the Kenwood Convent Chapel, and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 6 at 9:00 a.m. in the Convent Chapel. Interment in the Convent Cemetery.
