Barbara W. Savage Waterville Barbara W. Savage, 85, of Waterville, formally of Franklin Springs, passed away on Monday, April 9, 2012, at the Martin-Luther Nursing Home, Clinton. She was born March 23, 1927, in Troy, NY; the second of three children to the late George and Mabel Olmstead Williams. She received her education in Watervliet schools and also received a degree in business. On September 28, 1963, she married the love of her life, James Savage, from Glasgow, Scotland. James predeceased her in 2002. As a teenager, Barbara worked as an operator for New York Telephone Company in Troy. She continued with the company retiring on her 50th anniversary as Manager of the Annoyance Call Bureau in Utica. At which time the company was known as Bell Atlantic. She was a lifelong member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, and a former member of the Waterville Historical Society. She was very supportive of many charitable organizations especially the Humane Society, the Rescue Mission and the Association for the Blind. She had a great fondness of animals and lavished attention on many family pets. Barbara was an active supporter of the breeding and training of her family's Morgan and Miniature horses at Stockwell Acres farm. She attended many horse shows throughout the New York and New England area and enjoyed encouraging Stockwell entries from the rail. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie Mae and Rocco Padula, of Waterville; her grandchildren, Paige Elizabeth Padula and Rocco Anthony Padula, Jr.; two sisters-in-law, Judith Williams, of Utica, and Lucinda Savage, of Waterville; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, George E. Williams, Jr.; and a sister and two brothers-in-law, Betty and George Gauthier, and John Savage. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 14, 2012, at noon, from St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Waterville. Interment will follow in St. Bernard's Parish Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
