Barbara Theresa (Flanagan) Johnson, 79 of Duxbury died peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, June 22, 2012 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. The beloved daughter of the late Francis and Alice (Burke) Flanagan, she was born in Lowell on October 3, 1932. Raised in Lowell and a graduate of St. Marys School in Waltham, Barbara never stopped pursuing her intellectual and educational interests, including those pertaining to the arts, culture, politics, and history. After raising her children in Hingham, Barbara moved to Duxbury, where she lived for the past 30 years. Barbara loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, gardening, painting, and debating and participating in robust political discussions. She deeply touched many lives and she will be greatly missed. She was a loving mother to her four children, Steven A. Johnson of Dana Point, California, Julie A. Johnson of Nahant, David A. Johnson of Lantana, Florida and Karen A. Johnson Fitzmaurice of Norwell. Barbara was the devoted grandmother of Emily Fitzmaurice and Andrew Fitzmaurice of Norwell, Zachary Johnson, Clara Johnson, and Natalie Johnson of Dana Point, California, and Ashley Bott-Johnson of Lantana, Florida. She is also survived by her brothers, Francis, Robert, Gerald and Leo Flanagan and her dear sister Patricia Galvin. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends. A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, June 27 at 10 a.m. at the Holy Family Parish, 601 Tremont Street, Duxbury. Internment in Duxburys Mayflower Cemetery.
