Barbara O. Scott Smith, 89, of 310 Forest Lane Drive, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 10, 2008, at her residence. Born in Belton, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Benjamin L. Scott and Mary Ragsdale Scott and widow of the late Lt. Col. Charles S. (Sid) Smith, who died on March 26, 1989. Mrs. Smith was a graduate of LaDove Beauty School in Greenville, S.C., and worked with her sister, Zula McGraw, for many years at the Sans Souci Beauty Shop. She and her husband traveled during his military career and lived in England, Washington, DC, and Sacramento, Calif. Mrs. Smith was a member of Eastern Star and was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Honea Path, S.C. She loved to garden and bake. She is survived by eight nieces and nephews, Eunice Hall of Taylors, B.F. Hopkins of Honea Path, Vonnie Ellison of Cheddar, Ellen Wright of Honea Path, Howard Scott of Honea Path, Ann Alverson of Piedmont, Johnnye Wood of Piedmont and Gerald Scott of Piedmont; and several great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Maude Hopkins, Polly Baker and Zula S. McGraw; and four brothers, Dewey, Aarron, Clyde and Adger Scott. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 on Monday, January 14, 2008, at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel at 1:30 p.m. immediately following the visitation, and will be conducted by Rev. Russ Bradley. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville, S.C. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 1886, Gaffney, SC, 29342.
