Barbara McKim Smith, 69, Crestview, died Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013 en route to North Okaloosa Medical Center. She had numerous medical problems the past three years. She was born June 28, 1944 to William O. and Alice J. McKim of Richmond, Va. (deceased). An infant son, Marty Smith (April 10, 1968); and daughters, Carolyn Adele Smith (August 1997) and Elizabeth Anne Jenus (June 21, 2013) also predeceased her.Survivors are her husband, Lawrence "Larry" Smith, retired Navy senior chief, Crestview; daughter Dottie Smith, Crestview; son William Smith, Marion, Ohio; brother William G. (Helen) McKim, Richmond, Va.; and sister Lois Tredway, Glen Allen, Va.She is also survived by nieces Candice Pecka, Nichole McDonald and Laurie Fouts, Virginia, and Amy, Conyers, Ga.; nephews Jon Ryan McKim, Virginia, and Allen and Austin Massey, Conyers, Ga.; and grandchildren, Michael (Cassie) Devlin Jr. and Joseph Kubacki of Fort Walton Beach; Peerless Ward, Crestview; and Ashley Richbourg, New Port Richey.Survivors also include her son-in-law, Carl Jenus, Fort Walton Beach; great-granddaughter, Aria Lynn Devlin, Fort Walton Beach; and her extended Smith family in Tennessee. Barbara was a giving person who made things and gave them to friends. She will be greatly missed by her family and those who knew her. Barbara and Larry were married 47 years on May 20.Thanks to all for the visits, calls, cards, food and love in the past year; the staff of Crestview Rehabilitation Center, Dr. Mark Cooper, Dr. Peter Godleski and Dr. Lee Thigpen; Airport Road Church of Christ, Crestview, members; and friends in Niceville and Crestview. Services include the 1 p.m. viewing and 2 p.m. funeral Friday, Oct. 4 at Airport Road Church of Christ, with the Rev. Mark Dillman presiding. Burial follows at Heritage Gardens Cemetery in Niceville. Flowers are accepted, but the family requests donations to your church's missions or the children's ministry of your choice in Barbara's name.The News Bulletin publishes north Okaloosa County residents and former residents' obituaries for $45 including a photo.
