SMITH - Barbara Martin passed away on December 13, 2003 at UBC Hospital. She would have been 92 on Christmas Day. Predeceased by her brothers, her sister, her husband, and her only son. Survived by five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by the two main men in her life, her grandson James Macnab (Vancouver) and her nephew, Jeff Brown (Oakland), as well as her loving nieces and their families. Born in North Vancouver, Barbara grew up in Seattle. She had an interesting career with the Defense Department, working in Alaska for many years as well as California, returning to the Seattle area, and retiring to Vancouver. Barbara was a long-time, active, and valued member of both the Order of the Eastern Star and the Lady Vancouver Club. An indomitable spirit, she kept her fierce independence and sharp mind as well as her remarkable youthfulness. She was an inspiration to all of us. The family would like to thank the staff at UBC Ward 2C for the wonderful care she received. A burial service will be held in Seattle in January. Walkey & Company Funeral Directors 604 738-0006.
