1925-2014 CANAAN - Barbara P. Clark, 88, of Canaan, passed away Sunday, June 22, 2014, from injuries received after a fall at home. She was surrounded by her family at Eastern Maine Medical Center when the Lord called her home. She was born in Canaan to Margaret Morton Nason and Wilbur Wallace Tuttle on Nov. 16, 1925. She was one of eight children. She grew up in Canaan and married Arthur E. Clark in January 1944; together they raised four children until his passing in August 1968. She married again in July 1970 to Albin C. Clark (no relation to her first husband.) They were married until his passing in 2009. She was a homemaker for most of her life; occasionally over the years, she would work out to help with bills or with costly repairs for the home finding work at the spinning mill, or Solon Manufacturing, at the school cafeterias in the local district and lastly at Cedar Ridge Nursing Home in housekeeping. She was a wonderful cook and baker, and made the best doughnuts and biscuits. She was a member of the Canaan Grange and would make the biscuits for their public dinners every Sunday in the summer. People would rave about them and some would even bring baggies in with them in their purses to take some home with them. She was a caregiver by nature, not only taking care of her children and later grandchildren, but over her life time she took care of an elderly neighbor who suffered a stroke, an aunt, her own mother when she was dying of cancer, her sister-in-law, a brother in-law, her own brother, and her ailing mother-in-law, as well as, her husband Albin after his heart surgery and later when he suffered with dementia. She was an angel here on earth, doing God's will with her wonderful gifts of care and comfort. She was predeceased by her parents; both husbands; a daughter, Lucille Clark Smith; a stepson-in-law, Stanley Norris; a granddaughter, Monica Cark; grandsons Daniel Smith and Sawyer LePage; brothers Arvell, Bernard and Richard "Jake" Tuttle; sisters Francis Tuttle, Bernice Tuttle Lagassee and Theresa Tuttle Holt; numerous brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws from both husbands; and a good lifelong friend, Phyllis Ames Hutchings. She is survived by her children, Richard "Butch" Clark, and his wife, Pamela, Raejean Clark Herrin and her husband, Robert, and Kathy Clark Quirion and her husband, Rodney; her son-in-law, James Smith, and his second wife, Anna; and stepson Hal Clark and wife Mary; stepdaughter Sue Clark Norris and friend Dwayne Littlefield; a sister, Maxine Tuttle Ames; brothers-in-law Roland "Dick" Lagassee and Omar Holt; sisters-in-law Irene Tuttle, Rose Tuttle Comeau and Ada Koch; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and longtime neighbors. The family would like to give special thanks to Arthur Burrill, Canaan Rescue, Skowhegan EMS, and Life Flight crew for their quick response and wonderful care. A graveside service will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at Fairview Cemetery in Canaan, with the Rev. Kevin Brooks officiating. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan. Donations may be made in Barbara's name to Stephen Mayberry, Development Director, The Maine Children's Home for Little Wanderers, Development Department, 93 Silver St., Waterville, ME 04901.
