Barbara (Dugan) Murphy CANANDAIGUA - Barbara (Dugan) Murphy, age 83, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away, from Alzheimer's, on Saturday, March 1, 2014. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Bob Murphy; three children, Michael (Brenda) Murphy, Robert (Pamela) Murphy and Maureen (John) Quigley; six grandchildren; and 139 nephews and nieces. Barb was born in Akron, Ohio. She and her family moved to Canandaigua when she was in the sixth grade. Barb was a graduate of St. Mary's School, class of 1944, and Canandaigua Academy, class of 1948. She was also a graduate of Mt. Aloysius Women's College in Pennsylvania. Barb attended the University of Rochester Medical School where she studied radiology and earned a certification. She then worked at the old F.F. Thompson Hospital on Main Street in the radiology department. Barb also worked in the hospital orthopedic department. She was a homemaker and later worked with her husband at Murphy's Tire Service. Barb was a member of St. Mary's Church, the St. Vincent de Paul Society at the church, University Club of Rochester, Canandaigua Country Club, Century Club, Shuffler's Club, Luncheon Ladies, Bridge Club, Silver Sneakers Club at the YMCA and Tri-Y Girls Club, Granger Homestead Women's Council and Mt. Aloysius Alumni Association. She was also a former member of the Clark Manor House board of directors. Barb enjoyed playing tennis at the former Finger Lakes Racquet Club where she and her partner were doubles indoor tennis league champions. There will be no calling hours. Her memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 95 N. Main St., Canandaigua. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Canandaigua. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to F.F. Thompson Foundation, 350 Parrish St., Canandaigua, NY 14424. Arrangements are by Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home Inc., Canandaigua.
