Barbara Lucas May, 85, formerly of Auburn, passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at the Sunnyside Health Care Center, Syracuse. Mrs. May was born in Auburn on October 18, 1927, the daughter of the late William P. and Helen Atkins Lucas. She was a graduate of East High School, class of 1945. Barbara was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Auburn, and sang in their choir. She was a member of the Republican Women's Club, served on the board of Unity House for 13 years and an active participant in RSVP. Barbara served as an election inspector, was a member of the Eastern Star and Sennett Seniors. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Ellen Avery and her husband, Tom and Margaret "Peggy" Battista-Smith and her husband, Roger; her son, George E. May II and his wife, Olga; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and two nephews, Daniel and Michael Babbitt. Barbara was predeceased by her husband, George E. May; her children, Donna B. Kiser, Lori Ann May and William Lucas May. Calling hours will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the White Chapel Funeral Home, 197 South St., Auburn. Services will follow at 1 p.m. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Fleming. Donations may be made to Unity House, 34 Wright Ave, Suite C. Auburn or Matthew House, 43 Metcalf Dr. Auburn.
