Morrison, Barbara M.Nov. 5, 1943 - Apr. 28, 2013Barbara M. Morrison, 69, of Venice, FL, formerly of Pleasantville, NY died peacefully on April 28, 2013 and went to be with her Lord. Barbara was born November 5, 1943 in New York, NY to Bertha Edna (Young) and Clarence "Jack" Bonney. She co-owned and operated with her husband both Gems by Barbara and Tropical Scenes for 15 years in downtown Venice, having retired in 2000. Before being a business owner, Barbara delivered over 700 papers daily for 23 years for the Sarasota Herald Tribune and was a meter maid and a school crossing guard for the City of Venice Police Department. Barbara also was past president 2X for the Gulf Coast Mineral, Gem and Fossil Club; member of the Manasota Gem Club, member of the Red Hat Society, member of Venice Presbyterian Church and Associate member of First Presbyterian Church in Franklin, NC. Barbara always lived life to the fullest and approached everything with enthusiasm from traveling to over 17 foreign countries, crossing the USA 6 times, visited all of the presidential libraries, her hobbies included; gem cutting, faceting, scrap booking, card-making, basket-weaving, sewing, crafting, helping her husband with woodworking, embroidery, pearl & bead stringing, she was a collector of world treasures, was an avid mah jongg and hand & foot player, an excellent cook, baker and so much more. Through her jewelry work Barbara displayed her pieces at many juried craft shows and won numerous awards for her work. She shared her knowledge of gem cutting by teaching faceting at The Longboat Key Club. Barbara fell ill this past September at her summer home in Franklin, NC and was diagnosed with leukemia. She was surrounded by the family that she loved more than life itself which included her survivors; her beloved husband of 37 years, Richard D. Morrison; two daughters, Linda (Scott) M. Russell of Miami, FL, Wendy Morrison of Abington, MD; three sons: Scott (Susie) Lear of Torrence, CA, William "Bill" (Beth) T. Lear, III of Poughkeepsie, NY and Peter (Stefanie) D. Lear of Venice, FL; brother, Jack (Dianne) Bonney of Venice, FL; and ten grandchildren, and was predeceased by daughter, Susan Miller. A special thank you to Dr. Paul Gonter and staff of Florida Cancer Center Specialists for their gratitude and kindness and to Tidewell Hospice for their sincerity in Barbara's final moments. A Memorial Service will be held at 1 PM, Saturday, May 4 at Venice Presbyterian Church. Inurnment will be private.
