ObituaryBARBARA M. BROWNITHACA - Barbara M. Brown of Ithaca, died Sunday, September 5, 2004, at Oak Hill Manor at 79 years of age. Mrs. Brown was born on January 8, 1925 in Boston, MA, a daughter of the late Harry L. and Jeanette Bloom Rome. She was the wife of the late Theodore M. Brown, who died in 2000.Mrs. Brown enjoyed children and was a children's librarian for the Ithaca Public School system for more than 20 years. She served as a librarian at Henry St. John Elementary School, and Belle Sherman Elementary School. Mrs. Brown enjoyed helping people learn how to read and was a volunteer with Literacy Volunteers of Ithaca, and the Tompkins County Friends of the Library. She was an avid bird watcher and a member of various bird clubs in Ithaca, and volunteered at the Cornell Plantations. She was a charter member of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).Survivors include son, David Brown and daughter-in-law, Tori Brown of Ithaca; daughter, Lisa Brown of Durham, NC; brother, Robert Rome of Rockland, MA; grandson, Kai Brown of Ithaca; two nieces and one nephew.There are no calling hours and services will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mrs. Brown's name to the TC3 Foundation. Arrangements were completed by the Herson Funeral Home.
