ROGERS, Barbara Jean December 7, 1943 - June 8, 2017 Barbara died without pain or anxiety due to the superb care of her GP and the BC Home Care and Kelowna hospice services. She was born and raised in Calgary and with Ken, her husband of 51 years, raised two sons there, Andrew (age 49, Calgary) and Lindsay (age 50, Los Angeles). She and Ken moved to Salt Lake City in 1989 before coming to Kelowna in 1995. Barbara was an only child, adopted at birth by terrific parents, Michael and Jean Sande. They lived next door to her very outgoing and athletic aunt and uncle, Kay and Ed Lowney, and Barbara spent every summer while growing up at the Lowney''s small lakeside cottage. They guided her as a teenager to become a provincial sailing champion, a great swimmer and added to the fine job done by her parents to help mould Barbara into the "precious" being that will be sorely missed. Her college life included an Interior Design degree via Mount Royal College and general studies at the U of Alberta. Barbara made new friends easily and maintained close ties with many relatives and very long term friends. She had a fantastic talent for remembering names and personal details that were important to everyone she met and she always acted generously for others before herself. Barbara considered 30 years of selling ladies clothes, usually at upscale boutiques and on a part-time basis, as a series of fun social encounters rather than a job. She also worked tirelessly, using her gift to convert working with people into enjoyable experiences, to help build volunteer teams for the Arts–in Salt Lake City for both a major theatre group and the heritage society and since 1995, in Kelowna primarily for the Okanagan Symphony. A gathering to celebrate Barbara''s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at the Sonoma Pines Clubhouse, 3999 Sonoma Pines Drive, West Kelowna. Should friends and family so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Okanagan Symphony.
