Our beloved mom/ grandmother /great-grandmother, Barbara Janice Martin, 82, homemaker, of North Syracuse, NY, died peacefully in her sleep on February 22, 2015 leaving behind five children, Linda Martin of Syr., NY, Mary Koski of Wellington FL, John Martin of Winston Salem, NC, and Kelly Travis of Montague TX. She was predeceased by her husband, Edmund M. Martin; and her son, Michael Martin. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Born on July 22, 1934, to Mary Cottage Holmes, and Matthew Holmes of Syracuse, she is survived by her brothers, Peter Holmes of Syracuse, Matthew Holmes of Marathon, Fl, Michael Holmes of Syracuse; and sisters, Carolyn Corbett of Camillus, Mary Sue Kelly, of Camillus, and Patricia Dodd of Syracuse, NY. She attended St. Patrick's Catholic School followed by Syracuse University where she met her Syracuse Orange soulmate, Edmund Martin where they began their Orange fanaticism. While in college in worked at Addison Department Store and modeled for them followed by Alchemy in Solvay, NY. She and Edmund settled in the village of North Syracuse to begin their family in North Syracuse where they attended and sent their children to St. Rose of Lima Elementary School. She passed on her immense love of the arts to her children and grandchildren. She volunteered at St. Rose for many years as well as St. Josephs' Hospital early on as candy striper and later as an adult volunteer. She devoted and sacrificed much of her life to taking unprecedented care of her disabled son, Michael Martin who had Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy for 36 special years. Calling hours will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home in North Syracuse on February 26 from 4 to 7 p.m. and a funeral Mass will be held at St. Rose of Lima Church on February 27 at 10 a.m. followed by burial services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Rose of Lima Catholic School in N. Syracuse, NY.
