GERARD, BARBARA J. SMITH The death of Barbara J. (Smith) Gerard of Guelph, ON wife of J. Philip Gerard, occurred November 16, 2003 at the Morriston Park Nursing Home in Guelph. Born in Codys, Queens County, NB she was the daughter of the late Clifford and Laura (Keyes) Smith. Barbara graduated from the Gagetown Grammar School, attended Mount Allison University and later graduated from the Saint John General Hospital School of Nursing in 1952 followed by a long and distinguished career in nursing at the Sensenbrenner Hospital in Kapuskasing, ON as Director of Nursing until her retirement in 1985. On retirement Barbara and Philip moved to Gananoque, ON near the St. Lawrence River. In 2001 they moved to their new home in Guelph, ON. Barbara is survived by her husband of 49 years J. Philip Gerard; Sons Michael of Ajax, ON; Mark (Karen) of Burlington, ON; grandchildren Laura and Aaron of Burlington, ON; brother Jack (Irma) Smith of Fredericton, NB; step-mother Mabel (Oliver) Smith; step-sister Gail McNutt; step-brothers Stephen (Judy) and Murray Smith, all of Ottawa, ON; sisterin-law Marguerite Girard of Aylmer, PQ. Barbara is predeceased by her parents and her nephew Peter J. Smith. A memorial service will be held November 29, 2003 Gilchrist Chapel in Guelph, On at 1:30 p.m. Interment at the St. James Anglican Church Cemetery, Lower Jemseg, NB at a later date. Memorials in memory of Barbara may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Sensenbrenner Hospital Memorial Fund, 101 Progress Crescent, Kapuskasing,ON, P5N 3H2 would be appreciated by the family.
