Barbara Lanoue Hagins Smith, age 78, died Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at Springs Memorial Hospital.She was born May 30, 1935, in San Diego, Ca., the daughter of the late Jean Baptiste Lanoue and Mayme Lou Betsill Lanoue. Mrs. Smith was first married to the late Thomas Eugene Hagins and later to Bruce Edward Smith. Mrs. Smith was a mother, homemaker and loving wife. She helped start the Girl Scout program at Saint Luke United Methodist Church where she was a member. She was a supporter of the Elgin Fire Department and a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 259 in Heath Springs.Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Bruce Edward Smith of the home; two sons, Chris Hagins and his wife, Wanda, and Tommy Hagins and his wife, Sharon; two daughters, Deborah Mullis and her husband, Phillip, and Lynn Oliver and her husband, Michael, all of Lancaster; a stepson, Gene McDowell and his wife, Barbara of Delaware; a brother, John Lanoue of Richburg; seven grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren.The celebration of life funeral service for Mrs. Smith was 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, at Saint Luke United Methodist Church by the Rev. Bill McCown. Burial followed in the church cemetery.The family of Mrs. Smith received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 29, at Burgess Funeral Home, and suggest memorials be made to Saint Luke United Methodist Church, 128 Providence Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.An online guest register is available at www.burgessfunerals.com.
