Barbara G. Collins of Owego Barbara Collins, 81, of Owego, passed away on Friday, May 8, 2009. Mrs. Collins was predeceased by her son, Robert A. Collins Jr.; two brothers, Richard and James Shutts. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Robert A. Collins Sr.; three sons, Bruce and his wife, Carrie Collins, Geoffrey Collins, Sean Collins; daughter, Melissa Collins and her husband, Mark Trubucco; daughter-in-law, Beth Garmen; two grandsons, Robert and Matthew Collins; sister and brother-in-law, Gladys and Joseph Cumming; one brother and three sisters-in-law, Robert and Joyce Shutts, Marlene Shutts, Barbara Shutts; several nieces and nephews. Barbara was a 1949 graduate of Elmira College. She was a substitute teacher for the Rensselaer School District and the Owego Apalachin School District. Barbara started as a docent at the Tioga County Historical Society, later became assistant curator and was appointed Village of Owego Historian. She was a former Den Mother for the Apalachin Boy Scout Pack #17, a former member of the Apalachin United Methodist Church and a strong soprano in the church choir. Barbara was born a rock-ribbed Republican and died a proud Democrat. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Doctor Keith Nichols, the Owego Emergency Squad, Wilson Memorial Hospital Emergency Room Personnel and Cardiac Care Unit. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at the Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park St., Owego with the Rev. Alan Jagger officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 12:00 Noon to 1:45 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.
