Barbara Crowe Hamilton of Detroit, MI, and Beverly Hills, FL, died Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, in Chicago, IL, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. Born May 12, 1931, in Mound Bayou, MS, Barbara was the first child to Allie and Henry Crowe. She attended college in Chicago, IL, where she met and married her late husband, Dr. James Hamilton. Barbara and her family relocated to Detroit, MI, in 1963, where she served nearly 30 years as an elementary and middle school teacher and later assistant principal and principal for Detroit Board of Education. Barbara and James retired to Beverly Hills, FL, in 1995. Barbara later moved to Chicago to be closer to her children and grandchildren, in late 2003, where she remained until the time of her death in 2009. She is survived by her children, Rev. Kenneth Hamilton, Chicago detective, Gerald Hamilton, David Hamilton, Aleta Hamilton Miller (John), Jessica Hamilton Meyer (Bill); her brother, Kermit Crowe; sister, Sylvia Crowe Scott and brother-in-law, Edward Scott; along with a host of adopted sons and daughters, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family members and friends. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at St. Anselm's Catholic Church, Chicago, IL, with her son, Rev. Kenneth Hamilton, officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Memorial Lanes Cemetery, Chicago, IL. A memorial will be erected in Barbara's honor at her childhood hometown, in Mound Bayou, MS. For further information, contact A.A.
