WOOLEY Barbara 1920 - 2006 Barbara Clotilda Marrionne Wooley, beloved wife of Alfred Ray Wooley, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at the Bethany Care Centre Northwest Calgary. She never fully recovered from a stroke in 2002 and complications of leukemia. Barbara was born in Vancouver, BC on August 18, 1920, actually in an elevator. She always said she had her "Ups and Downs" ever since. Barbara worked at many different jobs, from domestic service to cooking for a road crew until she became a Certified Nursing Aid in 1961. She then worked at The Holy Cross Hospital, Foothills Hospital, Bethany Auxiliary, and Sunset Lodge, all in Calgary, plus the Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, B.C, The Red Deer General and Red Deer Auxiliary Hospital in Red Deer. Barbara lived most of her life in Alberta, living in Whitecourt, Canmore, Montgomery, Calgary, Red Deer and many smaller towns and villages as well as two years in New Zealand, 1955 to 1957. Barbara has been a very active member of the Salvation Army since 1932. She was a Brownie, a Guide and provided service in Corps Cadets, Home League, League of Mercy, Singing Company (later called the Songsters), as well as teaching Sunday School for many years. She also gave a lot of time to fund raising for the Salvation Army in downtown Calgary and for many years worked with the Christmas Kettles, usually on Seventh and Eighth Avenue at First Street S.W., Calgary, as well as carolling during the Christmas season. Barbara leaves behind her loving husband of nearly sixty- five years, Alfred, at Bethany Care Centre Northwest Calgary; son "Rick" and wife Shannon now of Wrentham, Alberta; daughter Shirley of Prince George, BC; sister Gladys Geddes of Calgary; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father John Henry Greene; her mother Dora May Greene (nee McKay); brothers, Harry, Stanley, William; and sisters, Ruby, Golda, Clara, and half-sister Dolly. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Friday, July 28, 2006 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at The Salvation Army Glenmore Temple (921 - 68 Avenue S.W.) on Saturday, July 29, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. with Colonel William Ratcliffe, Presider. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Salvation Army Food Bank c/o The Salvation Army Glenmore Temple, 921 - 68 Avenue S.W., Calgary, AB T2V 0N7.
