JOHNSON Barbara Bettels Johnson, age 85, a resident of Fleet Landing in Atlantic Beach, Fla., since 1995 and formerly of Fairfield and North Palm Beach, Fla., died on Sunday, June 20, 2004. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond L. Johnson. Mrs. Johnson was a lifelong member of the Junior League and a charter member of Old Yacht Club in North Palm Beach as well as a member of the Palm Beach Yacht Club and Brooklawn Country Club and Black Rock Yacht Club in Bridgeport. She was an honorary trustee of the eastern branch of the American Cancer Society, a former vice president and a board member of the Fairfield Visiting Nurses Association of Fairfield as well as a member of the Fairfield Red Cross. She is survived by her sister, Metta Bettels Beach of Fairfield; three children, Susan McEldowney Canon and her husband, Michael, of Ponte Vedra, Fla. and Brooksville, Maine, Ralph E. McEldowney III and his wife, Jeanne, of Fairfield, and Tequesta, Fla., and Mark Tropper Johnson and his wife, Betsy of Endicott, N.Y.; two stepchildren, Marcia VanEtten of Cohasset, Mass., and Vero Beach, Fla., and Terry Johnson of Plant City, Fla.; and a very special relative, Joy Martens Johnson; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at Fleet Landing on Saturday, June 26, 2004, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Hospice of Northeast, Florida, 4114 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257 or the Fleet Landing Endowment, 1 Fleet Landing Blvd., Atlantic Beach, FL 32233
