AUGUSTA -- Barbara B. Smith, age 85, of Gray Birch Drive, died Oct. 12, 2010, at MaineGeneral Medical Center after a brief illness.She was born in Augusta on July 21, 1925, the daughter of Frederick L. Best and Edna (Guthrie) Best.Mrs. Smith was a graduate of Cony High School and a homemaker in her own home for most of her life.She was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church of Augusta, where she was active at church and was a former choir member.She was predeceased by her husband, Robert A. Smith Sr., on Dec. 12, 2005.Surviving are a daughter, Deborah A. Love and her husband, Roger, of Derry, N.H.; three sons, the Rev. Robert A. Smith Jr. and his wife, Thelma, of Caribou, Thomas A. Smith and his wife, Mary, of Leesburg, Fla., and John S. Smith and his wife, Michele, of Shady Side, Md.; one sister, Jacqueline Cressey of Brunswick; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.There will be no public visiting hours. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 60 Bangor St., Augusta. Burial will be in the Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.Memorial donations are preferred to: St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 60 Bangor St., Augusta, ME 04330.
