Jan. 21, 1921 – Dec. 28, 2008. Barbara West of Pensacola, Fla., passed away Dec. 28, 2008. She was born on Jan. 21, 1921, in Pittsburgh. Barbara was a sergeant in the Women's Army Corps during World War II. In 1953 she married William West who preceded her in death in February 2008. In 1968 they moved their family to Pensacola. She managed Mrs. Stover's candies in Cordova Mall, becoming regional manager for the Stover's Corp. Upon retirement she and her husband lived their summers in Hiawassee, Ga., on their beloved golden pond Lake Chatuge. Her local family includes son, William J. West II and his wife Connie Elaine; grandsons, Will West and Christopher Stewart; and granddaughter, Christina Lane. Services will be held at Cokesbury United Methodist Church in Pensacola on Dec. 31. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. in the sanctuary, with a celebration of life service beginning at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cokesbury United Methodist Church or The United Methodist Children's Home.
