JACKSON, Barbara Ann Dorr, 70, of School House Hill, Bryson City, N.C., passed peacefully, surround-ed by family and loved ones, Sunday, May 17, 2009. Barbara was born November 1, 1938, in Tampa, the only child of Harry and Mary Belle Dorr. Barbara fell in love with Western North Carolina during her childhood, while at her parents' summer house in Maggie Valley. Barbara was an eclectic artist who immersed herself in the art community throughout the Southeast. She owned and operated both Traditions and LB Folk Art gift stores in Bryson City, N.C. Known as "Barbie," "Bobbie," "LaLa," "Mom" or "Mother," she had both a generous heart and an open door and was a dear friend to all who knew her. She was a student at Plant High School in Tampa and studied Journalism at Florida State University. Barbara is survived by her children, Jennifer Thomas, Fox Jackson, Candace Zlotnick and Rebecca Jackson; and her longtime friend, Linda McBride. She is further survived by two sons-in-law, Ted Thomas and Steve Zlotnick; her grandchildren, Amanda McCann, Hannah and Abby Zlotnick, and Angel Bowers; and great-grandson, Dorian Chicas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Mary Belle Dorr. She was previously married to the children' s father and friend, Seaford Fox Jackson III. LaLa will be missed by all her "children." Barbara did not wish for a graveside service, but felt a tree planted by anyone in her name would be a lasting memorial. In lieu of flowers, her family requests a donation be made in her name to Westcare Hospice in Sylva, N.C.
