NORTHFIELD - Barbara A. Mitchell, 77, died at her home on Shaw Circle, Tuesday, March 10, 2009. She was born in Morrisville on Feb. 4, 1932, the daughter of Edward and Belle (Turner) Smith. She is a graduate of Peoples Academy in Morrisville. She earned her nursing degree from Fanny Allen in Burlington and a Bachelor of Science degree from Vermont College in Montpelier.She married George David Mitchell in Morrisville on Oct. 22, 1955. Mr. Mitchell died March 2, 2003.Mrs. Mitchell had a long career in nursing, having worked at Fanny Allen in Burlington, Norwich University Infirmary, and the Washington South Supervisory Union.She enjoyed attending the Norwich University hockey games, traveling, visits with family, was an avid Red Sox fan and especially loved her daily workouts with many friends at Ladies Workout Express in Northfield.Survivors include three sons, David Mitchell of Yorktown, Va., James Mitchell and his wife, Denise, of West Lebanon, N.H., John Mitchell and his wife, Cynthia, of White River Junction; one brother, Robert Smith of Jericho; four grandchildren, Joseph, Laurel, Jared and Jillian; and several nieces and nephews.Calling hours will be conducted Friday, March 13, from 7-9 p.m. at the Kingston Funeral Home, 35 Slate Ave. in Northfield. Funeral services will be private.
