Aurore Anita Richard 1927-2012 The death of Aurore Anita (LeBlanc) Richard of Ste-Anne’s Court, Fredericton, NB passed away surrounded by her family at the Dr. Everett Chalmer’s Hospital on Wednesday, July 25th, 2012 at the age of 85. Born in La Hêtrière (Memramcook, NB) on April 20, 1927, Aurore was the youngest of Adolphe and Alice (Belliveau) LeBlanc’s fourteen children. Aurore graduated from the Convent de Notre Dame de Sacré Coeur (n.d.s.c.) in 1946, and then moved to Fredericton to attended Teacher’s College where she graduated with a teaching license in 1947. Aurore’s first year of teaching was at La Hêtrière in a one room school house. She later taught in East Bathurst, Dieppe, and eventually moved to Minto to teach in 1950. Aurore later went to Université de Moncton to further her education and to upgrade her teaching licence. On August 27, 1955 Aurore married Lawrence Richard. They lived on Theatre Street in Minto until Lawrence passed away on August 10, 1990, on St. Lawrence Day, at the age of 66. Aurore remained in the house until October 2008 when she moved to Ste-Anne’s Court in Fredericton. Aurore retired at the age of 58 in 1985 after 35 years of teaching. After her retirement she started the Local Branch of Retired Teacher’s for the Minto area. The first meeting was first held at Aurore’s house in September 1985. Present at that meeting were Margaret Higgins, Thelma Egers, Alma Barton, Barbara Young, and Anna Goguen. As the group expanded, they moved their meeting place to the parlor of the Trinity United Church. Minto’s Local Branch of Retired Teacher’s has now grown to over 25 members. Aurore was also a member of the Catholic Women League (CWL) and Les Dames de St. Ann. She loved to knit and play cards (especially bridge) with many of her cherished friends from Minto. Although she never forgot her old friends, the new bridge players at Ste-Anne Court became like another family. Aurore loved life and loved to laugh. She was known to play jokes on fellow teachers (D.G., G.Di, J.H.) especially around election time. Aurore was a strong Conservative and she especially liked to tease these teachers when the Conservative Party she admired was voted into office. She never forgot the fun she had when she went to the NBTA bowling tournaments. Aurore will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her son Denis (Jeannine Poirier) of Notre Dame, and her daughter Diane (Steven Barton) of Fredericton, two special granddaughters, Jennifer Richard, (mother late Janet Calabrese), and Chantal Allen (father Kerry Allen) both of Fredericton. A step-grand-son Jonathon Calabrese (mother late Janet Calabrese), whose wife is Lee-Ann Gautreau and two great-grandchildren, Emma and Kate. Aurore is survived by one brother, Père Léo-Paul LeBlanc of La Montain, one sister, Soeur Marie Cécile LeBlanc de NDSC of Moncton, and seven sisters-in-law, Lina LeBlanc, Zelma LeBlanc, Antoinette (René) LeBlanc-Bourgeois, Marie-Mai LeBlanc, Alice Meehan (late Billy), Yvonne Richard, and Eva Gallant (late Alderic), one brother-in-law Warren Mitchell (late Zelda), as well as many nieces and nephews, one special niece Leona (Omer) Bourgeois. Aurore was predeceased by five brothers: Albert (late Béatrice), Edgar, Henri, Sifroi, and Yvon and four sisters Bertha (late Stanley Bourgeois and late Fred LeBlanc), Emilienne (late Emile Cormier), Soeur Élodie LeBlanc de n.d.s.c. and Soeur Yvonne LeBlanc de n.d.s.c. Resting at Hogg’(Minto Funeral Home) in Minto with visitation on Monday – July 30, 2012 from 7-9pm and Tuesday – July 31, 2012 from 9-10:30am. The funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Minto, NB on Tuesday July 31, 2012 at 11am. Interment will be held at the Saint Bridget’s Cemetery at Hardwood Ridge, NB.
